How We Help

Parkinson's Research

PFP raises funds to benefit Parkinson’s related research, making substantial contributions to Vanderbilt University Hospital for Parkinson’s research as well as the Michael J. Fox Foundation. There is no cure for Parkinson's, but there is hope.

Exercise Program

Peterson for Parkinson’s supports an exercise program for the APDA Middle TN Chapter. Parkinson's disease affects your ability to move, but exercise can help to keep muscles strong and improve flexibility and mobility. Exercise will not stop Parkinson's disease from progressing, but it will improve your balance and it can prevent joint stiffening. You should check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

The APDA Middle TN Chapter offers P.E.P. (Parkinson’s Exercise Program) on Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 1:00 pm at Fifty Forward, 174 Rains Ave, Nashville TN.  To find out more about joining our class designed specifically for people with Parkinson's, please contact the Information & Referral Center at 615-342-4635.

New members must join Fifty Forward Knowles.  Have access to all of the exciting programs and trips available in addition to a dedicated exercise class just for people dealing with PD.  Cost is $10 per month.

Caregivers Program

The Peterson Foundation for Parkinson's is excited to partner with the Tennessee Respite Coalition to provide respite for family caregivers! PFP funds respite vouchers that help caregivers of people with Parkinson's be able to afford respite time.

Family caregivers need respite, essentially, temporary relief, to escape from their full time job of caring for their loved ones. Their job is one that lasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and does not include vacation time, sick time, or holidays. Respite allows that family caregiver to take the break they need to take care of themselves.

The Family Directed Respite Voucher Program is a respite and support program for family caregivers who care for their loved one in the same household. The program allows them to choose their provider, decide how much they pay, schedule respite according to their needs, and defray some of the cost of respite.

For more information about the Tennessee Respite Coalition or if you are a family caregiver needing respite, check out their website www.tnrespite.org or call 888-579-3754.
